Fun outdoor activities to do in social isolation

Although we are forced to social distance due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it doesn’t mean that we have to distance ourselves from nature. Getting a dose of fresh air and nature is especially important now when we are spending most of our time inside. You may not feel any issues at the moment, but not going outside and avoiding the sun, can affect your physical and mental health in the long run.

It’s no secret that spending time in parks, forests, and nature generally lead to a higher level of vitamin D in your body, reduce stress levels, decrease cancer risk, improve your blood pressure, and boost your mental health. Here are some fun activities you can do in nature to get healthier and in a better mood during these stressful days.

Let nature be your gym

We’re not all lucky enough to own a gym at home and just as many of us aren’t able to go to the gym either these days due to quarantine. But if you’re a dedicated gym-goer and you want to pursue a healthy lifestyle despite Coronavirus, think of turning nature into a gym! You just have to rethink your approach to working out. Nature has so much to offer. Instead of running inside, think about jogging under the sun.

You can also try yoga and do various exercises, like riding a bicycle or just walking your dog. Besides, studies have shown that outdoor physical activity has a 50% more positive effect on our mental health than going to the gym. Grab your fitness band and step outside! Go picnic in your local park

One of our favorite outdoor activities is going to a picnic. Picnics are fun for all generations, both children and adults. Whether it is in a park, a nearby forest, or in your backyard, use the extra time to spend it in the fresh air. Play badminton, board games, make a barbecue, bring your pets, and enjoy the sun. If no one is around, you can take the time to meditate or play guitar. Just relax and have fun.

Make a house for animals

You can use your stay in nature to help not only your body, but also nature and the animals that live there. Just like your pets-all sorts of animals need homes, so why not building a house for birds, hedgehogs, bugs, and others? Think about animals in your environment and design a little home for them.

Gather the supplies and create something warm, light, dry, and cozy. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to be functional. You will have fun, and the animals will be grateful to you for protecting them from rain and cold. If you like crafting and discovering new products, check our subscription box.

Ride bicycles with your partner

Riding bicycles is pure fun, yet a top-notch cardio workout! Kids, teenagers, and adults love to ride bicycles in nature. Riding a bike is a fun outdoor activity, but it also helps us to stay fit and healthy. Biking improves your mood but also strengthens your body, legs, and hips.

Of course, if you want to lose some weight, biking is the right choice for you. You'll burn about 400 calories an hour. It is suggested to ride for 30-60 minutes, 3-5 days a week. Just make sure to start every ride with a warm-up and avoid muscle inflammation. Ride a bicycle with your partner. You can chat, smile, and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Go romantic stargazing

The night sky full of stars and pleasant weather outside is an amazing chance to go on romantic stargazing with your partner. Bring some warm clothes, pillows, and blankets and settle comfortably on the terrace or in your yard. If the night is clear, you can make a wish on a shooting star or spot a planet! If you’re lucky, you may find various constellations in a form of animals, mythological persons, or an inanimate object.

Keep in mind that the night sky is constantly changing and will look different from one evening to the next. If you like to gaze at the sky, check online guides to learn how to spot a satellite!

Catch bugs with kids

How to have fun in nature with kids while not being able to go to a local park due to coronavirus? Consider catching and studying bugs! Make sure to get inexpensive bug catchers and simple plastic boxes first. Some bug catchers have magnifying lids that make detailed observations easier. You can catch potato bugs, ladybugs, centipedes, butterflies, spiders, moths, beetles, and other bugs to study them with kids. Just make sure the bug won’t hurt anyone.

Remember to warn your kids to stay away and avoid touching bees and wasps, while also to not hold hairy caterpillars in their bare hands. Once you catch the bug, tell your kids about that bug’s life. You can find all info online or you can buy some nice informational books. Fun is guaranteed and your children will spend quality time in nature. Together, you will learn interesting things about the small animals that surround you and be able to enjoy the sun. Besides, you can order a subscription box and surprise your kids while playing outside!
