1. Install a cleaning application
Well, many of us hate spring cleaning. Some are lazy and some just don't have enough time to do the cleaning. So, what is the best option? Installing a cleaning application! To get rid of cached, temporary, and junk data and files quickly, use a cleaning application. For example, Phone Cleaned on iOS will remove cached data and provides a list of suggested files to delete. This will save you time, and if you activate it daily, you can prevent the build-up of unwanted and forgotten data on your phone.
2. Delete old texts, music, and pictures
Start to spring clean your phone with the most important activity: deleting old texts, music, and pictures. Old threads, texts, songs, videos, photos, and pictures are they take up memory on your phone and you don't need them at all! And when you get around 2,000 photos, it will be very frustrating to check each of them and decide whether to keep it or delete it. Not to mention how much time you will spend on that.
If you have less than the number above, you can delete photos/texts manually, but you can ease your work and set your iPhone to delete messages after a certain time period: go to Settings > Messages > Message History > Keep Messages, then select 30 days to ensure they’re deleted once a month. Just be careful with WhatsApp messages and stuff on your chats. There might be something you want to keep.
3. Get rid of the apps you don’t use
This is an essential phone spring cleaning tip. There must be useless and old applications on your phone that just slow your phone down and gather cache every day. And not to mention eating your battery life. This spring, get rid of the apps you don’t use. On iPhone, just tap and hold the unused app on the home screen. For a list view, go to Settings > General > Storage, tap any app, tap Delete, then tap to confirm. You can even auto-delete apps you don’t use. To do so, navigate to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Offload Unused Apps. And if you ever need the app you had before, you can always download it again.
4. Clear your cache
Clear your cache is something you should do daily. Even the best gadgets require to be cache cleared. But if you’re one of those who just can’t manage to remember and do that, the spring cleaning is the right time to start. Wiping your cached data will help you clear some memory space when you need it. If you wonder why is this important, it’s because cached data can slow your phone and loading time. The more time you spend online, the more sizable the cache. If your phone is loading the page really slowly it’s because of the huge cache. On an iPhone, you can easily clear Safari browser data. Just open Settings > Safari and tap Clear History and Data.

6. Get your charging port cleaned by a professional
If you can’t manage to clean your phone yourself, or you’re not used to it, get your phone and its charging port to professionals. Liz Hamilton, director of people and customers at Mobile Klinik, tells HelloGiggles to consider seeking out a professional mobile technician to keep your phone healthy and avoid any charging issues. Improper cleaning of your phone, especially with a wet cloth, can damage it. On the other side, professionals can remove any lint, dust, or debris that may be in your charging port using a special tool. They can recommend you which special screen cleaners or screen wipes to use daily.
7. Deny location tracking
It is already known that a constantly turned ON location on your phone quickly “eats” its battery. Allowing all apps to track your location can drain your phone’s battery in a blink of an eye. While it’s necessary for some apps like Lyft or Uber, it may not be necessary for others. Deny location tracking this spring and refresh your phone. If you have an iPhone, just go to Settings > Privacy > Location, and then choose the apps that you want to give location access to.
8. Delete old text threads
Even if you like to keep and read months-old text thread with your besties or endless sweet love messages with your boyfriend, your phone doesn’t like it much as you do! If the threads are full of photos, videos, GIFs and files, the amount of data in it is slowing your phone way down. If it’s hard for you to say goodbye to some of your favorite threads, you can always screenshot them! But if you want to clean and boost your phone, you should delete old text threads. On an iPhone, open up the iMessage app, swipe left on the thread you want to delete and tap the red delete button.
9. Clean up irrelevant contacts
We tend to add new phone contacts constantly, but we forget to delete tons of numbers we don’t use anymore. To spring clean your phone properly, don’t forget to clean up irrelevant contacts. Why would you keep the contact information of your partners and ex-colleagues that you haven’t talked to in 10 years? Take the time to scroll through your contacts and delete anyone that you don’t remember or you don’t need. This is one way to free up more space on your phone for other things.
10. Dare to hit a reset
Sometimes, to refresh and clean our phone indeed, we have to hit the reset button. If the system freezes for no apparent reason or apps refuse to launch after you clear the cache and delete everything you could, you must do a factory reset. But it doesn’t have to hurt if you backup your stuff. When you finish, if you have an iPhone, just go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings. And you’ll have a brand-new phone.
